Ranked formations

Three four-slot plans that stay useful when Ranked assigns your side and map. Use the formation rules below as a repeatable test, then confirm current unit details in the live game.

The safest Ranked core

A dependable queue starts with frontline, protected damage, mobility, and one flexible answer. That shape is more resilient than stacking four individually strong units because Ranked can expose you to a side or map that does not suit a one-dimensional build. Start with the balanced formation model, then change only the flex slot after you identify the opponent’s pressure.

Three four-slot templates

Hold the pointSpear Vanguard, Immortal, two protected ranged slotsDefend and narrow approaches
Tempo attackSamurai, mobile pressure, ranged support, durable anchorAttack and early objective contests

These are role templates, not mandatory ownership lists. Replace any named unit with another unit that performs the same job and survives the same counter test.

The one-slot swap rule

Do not rebuild all four slots after one loss. Identify what failed first: the frontline collapsed, ranged units were reached, or mobility arrived without support. Swap the single slot responsible for that failure. This keeps the rest of the formation’s timing familiar and makes the next result easier to evaluate.

Ranked pre-queue checklist

  • Confirm one unit can hold first contact.
  • Keep at least one damage source behind that contact.
  • Reserve one slot for flanking, reinforcement, or counter-play.
  • Avoid four melee units that compete for the same space.
  • Read the live Ranked panel because rules can change between patches.
